Will Corry and his team have been busy over the last week or so planning the next stage of build.
Below is an update on what is planned and been completed:

Will Corry made my morning when I awoke a batch of latest photos had come through at 2:30am!
The engine is now sitting proud in YFY 467. A history of the engine will follow shortly, but it does have a Goodwood pedigree and was used in the Westlake Cup by Will when is own engine became ill. To see more photos please visit the gallery it feels like years to finally get to see YFY 467 in the Belfast sunshine! But she is on her temporary wheels and sitting outside whilst Will gets his car ready for an event.
Roll on the engine and gearbox mounting! More photos can be found here on the build gallery Page Spoken with the wheel manufacturer today and we need to confirm the offsets and the dims on the above drawing before they can start their manufacturing. It will then be a lead time of around 10 weeks.
In terms of tyres we will probably go with Dunlop CR65 race tyres. Will’s team have been busy today! YFY 467 is now sitting on my old MG Midgets wheels! Unfortunately they are a little modern for HRDC.
It’s been a little quiet on the build front for a while but tonight I have added a number of new photos to the build gallery!
We need a few things like new wheel cylinders for the back. Will Corry is aiming to have hubs painted very soon, all new bearings are already fitted. The hubs were primed yesterday. Once painted black they can go on followed by the half shafts and then set the drums on and set the hubs on and finally the wheels. I have finally decided on the wheels and the manufacturer is able to make a special set at our required size. They are going to look very special. Wills team are starting to paint the engine the same colour of original car. The next stage will be getting the engine and gearbox in and mounted! Confirmed order with David at Peter May Engineering and box of delights are on their way to Corry Motorsport for fitting.
The next exciting chapter in YFY 467 is about to begin. Meanwhile I will be continuing my research into period Wheels. I think I have decided on a steering wheel to take my recently designed steering wheel centre which pays tribute to my racing hero Sir Stirling Moss. Exciting times another step closer to a complete Lenham GT Sprite. Long chat with Will Corry on Friday discussing getting YFY 467 back onto four wheels which will take between four and five days.
Tomorrow will see me finalising the parts and placing an order with the very helpful David at Peter May Engineering. I hope to post more photos soon once the rebuilt commences. Fingers crossed she will be ready for the Sprites 60th anniversary celebrations. On speaking with Will Corry he plans to start prepping for the re-assembly of YFY 467. He wants to lay it out like a Mecanno set over the Festive holidays.
I am hoping to place an order tomorrow with Phil at the Welsh MG Centre for a number of items including poly bushes and softened springs. One of the next things will be powder coating to make the parts worthy to sit alongside the excellent paint job which will be revealed or Christmas! The guys and girls at TJ Bodyworx have confirmed that the paint process has been completed today.
All that remains is for the bonnet to be fitted ready for collection by Corry Motorsport. It will then enter the next stage of refitting of engine and subsequent components. Several people have asked about the power plant and this will be discussed in future blogs. I have to say the team at TJ Bodyworx have done a brilliant job and have supplied many photos during the stages of paint. Once I have daylight shots of their excellent work I will be revealing YFY 467 Paint scheme and will a post a number of photos showing their prep work. It’s taken many years for me to get to this stage and the vision I had looks better than I could ever imagined. PS The photo is a little wide for a Lenham, but it has the sort of look! |
